So PM Lee said that Punggol will finally get the development that PM Goh promised 11 years ago – and this time it will have freshwater lakes, water sports amenities and other suburban features. But what do residents actually want?

In an unscientific poll done by harassing aunties and uncles at the Koufu food court at Punggol Plaza, TalkingCock.com found out:

1. An explanation why it’s spelled ‘Punggol’ and yet we always pronounce it ‘Pong-goal’.

2. Come to think of it, what’s the deal with those two ‘g’s’ in 'Punggol'? One enough, what!

3. The answer to the age-old mystery, what the fish does ‘Ponggol’ mean, ha? Is it Malay for "hurling sticks at the branches of fruit trees to bring them down to the ground", or Tamil for “stump of a tree”?

4. Whichever it is, please don’t rename the place ‘Punggolopolis’. Dr Tony Tan, you got hear or not?

5. An IR of our very own.

6. A nudist beach.

7. A giant statue of a plate of mee goreng to commemorate Punggol as the site of the original Choon Seng Seafood Restaurant, you know, lah, the one at the end of the jetty where the buses make the 3 point turn and add that special exhaust flavour to your makan. Mmm, exhaust.

8. Why call it ‘Punggol 21-Plus’? 21 plus what? Another 21 years for you flers to develop this place?

9. Can I get my pig farm back?

10. Some developer to en bloc this whole estate so I can earn some money and move elsewhere.

11. Sharks with frickin’ lasers on their foreheads.

12. An opposition MP
