Is it time to call/email the AVA? You decide.

Licensing of dogs for HDB residential premises

Under the Housing and Development Board (Animals) Rules 1989, HDB  allows only one dog of an approved small breed per residential unit. Failure to comply with this legislation can result in a fine of up to S$4,000 upon conviction.

Approved Breeds:- http://www.ava.gov.sg/NR/rdonlyres/2FCF9F87-1FB1-49C8-A804-0611C26E95FA/18177/approvedsmallbreed.pdf

Perhaps a call or an email to AVA to check on the dogs around Punggol area will determine the number of unlicensed dogs as well as non-approved breeds in this area.

It will definitely also eliminate the 'LEFT-OVER' problems created by inconsiderate owners.

Obeying The Laws

If you are a dog owner, take note of the licensing, leashing and muzzling conditions that are required by law. These laws include :
All dogs older than 3 months must be licensed. Licensing details are available at http://www.ava.gov.sg/AnimalsPetSector/SalesOfPetsOwnershipExhib/DogLicensing/index.htm.

HDB apartments are allowed one dog of an approved breed or its cross. The cross should be 40 cm or less at the shoulders and weigh 10 kg or less. For the list of dogs approved by HDB, click here.

All dogs have to be leashed when in a public area. In addition, the Pit Bull, Akita, Neapolitan Mastiff, Tosa and their crosses, and the Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd Dog (and related breeds), Rottweiler and Perro de Presa Canario must also be muzzled.

A responsible dog owner should do the following :

License your dog once it has passed 3 months of age.
Discipline and socialise your dog properly.
Control your dog properly at all times and do not let it become a nuisance.
Do not allow your dog to bark excessively.
Have your dog on a leash when it is in a public place.
Muzzle it, if required by law.
Pick up your dog's poop in public places.

About your last point, I have seen a lot of so called dog lovers leaving their dogs to the maid and the maids can't be bothered to pick up the poop...

I was walking with my baby in her carrier in front of me when this real big white dog (about 1 m high) walked over and started sniffing my baby's leg... was scared out of my wits.. what if it decided to bite my baby... the owner was even smiling at the incident.

I love dogs but I think if these big dogs are not controlled, they can really hurt someone Sad
