Other ways, if can make birthday cakes or cookies from home and sell. That will be good.

I'll be the first one to order.

usually home-made from own kitchen should be in the range 20% lower than market price. Because you don't have rental to cover right?

Market to yr child's classmates parents first. Must be creative lah....different fom those BreadTalk/Bengawan Solo/Four Leaves.

i actually bake a lot during christmas & CNY. friends and relatives always ask me why am i not selling. the truth is, the ingredients costs are low and you will be able to cover these cost if you sell it. it is the time you spend baking, plus, the delivery that i don't find worth it.

the home oven and the whisk can only bake a limited amount at one go. bakeries have huge segmented ovens that you can bake many sponges at any one time. i have a whisk that is huge by home standards, too bad, oven is fixed at that size for home user. want to gain economies of scale also can't expect much.

if you want to get more sales, you need to look out of punggol. people expect you to deliver the cake to the venue too, especially those office parties. transport alone takes another amount of time and cost.

take for eg: i used about 3 hours to bake 3 durian log cakes (very different from cakes shops right?). right from the start to decoration and packing. i have to do it when my kid is asleep. when she wakes, i can't give her the sole attention. then i have to deliver. pack the cakes in the car, bring my girl with me and travel. how much can i charge for the time taken? its whole day gone. if too expensive, people rather buy outside. and i'm not willing to sell cheap coz i know its good stuff (D24 durian flesh) and i invested my time at the expense of my family.

that's why i gave up the idea. i think i will start when my kids are older and they are stuck in school.... haven't even tell you the time & $$ that i invested to make CNY goodies.... told my husband, next time we get a new place, i want TWO ovens. can bake more at the same time and that would be more worth it.
